WITHIN THE FOLDS OF A LANDSCAPE / DANS LES REPLIS DU PAYSAGE

A bilingual book-object in collaboration with visual artist Yvonne Calsou.

After two years of a very fruitful collaboration with Toulouse based visual artist Yvonne Calsou, I am thrilled to announce the publication of our bilingual book-object Within the folds of a landscape / Dans les replis du paysage, which was launched with a reading-performance event at Lieu-Commun, Artist run space in Toulouse on the 6th November 2024.

The book combines the twenty individual black and white drawings from Yvonne’s installation Chambre Claire (2021), with twenty texts evoking my memories of New Zealand in response to the artist’s drawn landscapes.

The design conceived by graphic design duo Rovo (Gaëlle Sandré & Sébastien Dégeilh) reimagines our visual-written narrative in the form of the book-object, and the French translation of my texts was done by Jean-François Caro; all of whom I’d like to thank immensely for their hard work and commitment to the realisation of this book.

Also a big thank you to the Région Occitanie, Manuel Pomar & the Lieu-Commun team, and Claus Sauer at Caza d’Oro, for their generous support of our project.

Finally, a very special thank you to Yvonne for the wonderful path that we’ve taken together – Within the folds of a landscape / Dans les replis du paysage.

* Now on sale at Lieu-Commun, Artist run space (Toulouse), Les Abattoirs (Toulouse), the Mas-d’Azil tourist office (Ariège) and on Artlinker *
